About the Artist
|

I am a self-taught, "late bloomer" not painting much until I retired from a long career in the insurance business.

I spend lots of free time creating new works, attending workshops and exhibits. It gives me such great satisfaction to connect with the beauty of the outdoors, to paint the shadows on snow or the sun dancing on trees as they give off a feeling of natural warmth.

Coming across an old barn to paint always excites me. It has to be old, mind you. It makes me think of all the shelter it has provided for so many years, and in some strange way, I guess it reminds me of how everyone gets older. Sometimes they lean a bit, looking kind of tired. I love the way the wood has turned silver gray. You can’t get paint that beautiful. Only years of standing in the weather, bearing the storms and scorching sun can produce beautiful barn boards like that.

Once I started painting, I discovered making cards from my images. It was almost as much fun as painting! Now I make up lots of different selections to sell. I put them in a nice box and tie it with a colored ribbon; they are great for gift giving. I have people tell me they not only use them, but give them as a hostess gift, or buy them for the kids to give to their teachers,

I don’t think I will ever get tired of trying to capture the beautiful scenes just waiting to be discovered both near my home in Maine and all over New England.

Sharing my work with others is one of my greatest joys!
